A HOLIDAY PALETTE

holiday wrap palette | Where is June?

‘Tis the season and it’s time to wrap! Last year I shared my holiday palette of gift wrap and my admission of being OCD when it comes to wrapping presents.  I love choosing new papers each year and The Container Store has the best gift wrap shop!  Last year my theme was Snowy Cottage Glam and included golden glitter paper.  The palette was amazing but the glitter sucked.  I can’t stand the side-effects of glitter.  One gift and I was covered in glitter, as was my bedroom floor.

This year my theme is Festive Mountain Lodge.  Steering clear of the glitter, I am choosing a more understated, woodsy theme.  I fell in love with navy blue antler wrap and built the rest of the palette around it.  Antlers, birch bark, gray gabardine, and winter plaid papers are exactly what I imagine under the tree at a rustic mountain lodge.  Tie-ons and ribbon will finish the packages.  I kind of love it!

PERSONALIZED MEMORY GAME

Pinhole Press Personalized Memory Game Details | Where is June?

I am just a little bit excited about our Christmas gift for our two year old nephew. Ok, a LOT excited!  You might remember Brecken and his little darling face!  I made him a book for his birthday with the faces and names of our family!  I thought it would be a great way for him to stay connected with his cousins and his aunts and uncles.  San Diego is far too far.

We want him to think of Seattle and the PNW as his second home.  For his Christmas gift, I created a Personalized Memory Game with a little help from Pinhole Press.  The game has 24 cards {12 matching pairs}.  I used pictures from my Instagram account, choosing quintessential Northwest images.  The Space Needle, the Seattle Great Wheel, apples, a ferry boat, Safeco Field, snowy mountains, an island beach, Husky Stadium, the Blue Angels, the Pike Street Market sign, the old Boeing barn, and the Seattle skyline.

I love the robots on the back and it only took a few minutes to create this one-of-a-kind gift.  The game can grow with him.  Starting out with a smaller amount of matches to find and building up to all 24 cards.  My boys are looking forward to playing with him.

Memory game and game tray | Where is June?

The game comes packaged in a darling box.  Perfect for a game shelf or a tray so it is easy to grab and play.

Pinhole Press is pretty fantastic.  I also love: the Ice Cream Social Gift Box & the Magnetic Weekly Notepad

In the Details No 17 | Where is June?

I feel it.  The anticipation that begins to build as the holidays approach.  In the last couple of years I have dreaded the season {which is extremely unlike me}, but this year I feel energized by the thought of spending time with family and friends, building memories with my boys, and the festivities that come between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.  In the weeks to come I hope to share that excitement with you!

Things that inspire and interest me this week, heavily influenced by Buenos Aires:

1.  A simple fall place setting.

2.  The most amazing butterfly chairs at the most amazing shop in Palermo.  I wanted to bring this baby home!

3.  How beautiful is this little spot?

4.  This holiday wreath belongs on my front door!

5.  I fell in love with this chalkboard wall.  The lettering, the design, all of it.  Plus, it was the store front of a speak easy in Buenos Aires.  Well, done.

6.  A Caipirinha in the mid-afternoon sun is perfection!

7.  Ummm, this outfit is on point!

Hello November |Where is June?

We just arrived home from Argentina yesterday.  It is spring time in South America.  Warm and sunny.  Quite a contrast to the November we have in the Northwest.  Regardless, of the weather, it is time to embrace deep autumn and prepare for the upcoming holiday season.  Here a just a few fall themed ideas to get you in spirit!

Hello, November.

Monochromatic tablescape with pumpkins and antlers.

An outdoor dinner. {Risky but gorgeous!}

The ultimate fall cheese plate.

Place cards for dinner.

in the details no 16 | Where is June?

I am so, SO excited for the weekend.  I love to watch my boys prep for Halloween night.  The night is really not my favorite, but they are totally into it and seeing them happy is always a good thing.  I had not allowed mini-sized candy into my house until this week.  And for good reason!  Who can resist a Snickers bar?  Not me, obviously.  Sunday afternoon we are Buenos Aires bound.  {Whaa?}  One whole week of exploring the South American city, eating steak, drinking Malbec, and maybe a little hiking and dancing the Tango thrown in for good measure.  I won’t be posting here on the blog next week, but please follow my trip and adventure on Instagram.  {@seattlejune}

Haircut follow up:  You know when you go on a blind date and the minute you meet him you instantly know he is “the one”?!  Yep, pretty much the same thing with my new stylist.

A round-up of things that inspire and interest me this week:

1. Anyone been to Buenos Aires?  We would love any recommendations.

2.  To know me is to know I am obsessed with cross-body bags.  The fringe on this bag is everything!

3.  Do you follow Garance?  We would be best friends if I lived in NYC.  Her new book is out this week.

4.  To travel is to live.

5.  First item to go on my holiday wish list:  these gloves.

6.  Peanut Butter Crispy Bars.  That’s all.

7.  A large graphic print fills a room with interest.

In the Details No 15 | Where is June?

What do you have planned for the weekend?  I am looking forward to taking the kids to get pumpkins.  Our beloved farm is open again and so we are making the trek for pumpkins, mini doughnuts and cider!  I couldn’t be happier!  Little Man wants to make cut-out sugar cookies, so I will dig up the fall cookie cutters and whip up the dough today.  I love baking with the boys.

A collection of things that inspire and interest me this week:

1. This room screams cozy and comfortable.  Those woven IKEA poufs are pretty awesome and totally affordable.

2.  Stacks of baskets.  Wouldn’t these be great for blankets?  Or possibly a smaller one to hold TP in the bathroom?

3.  If you have tape and spray paint, you can start and complete this pumpkin DIY in no time!

4.  OMFG!  I am still obsessed with having a neon light somewhere in my house.

5.  A Dia de los Muertos inspired skull candy bowl is spot-on!  {And only $12}

6.  Chocolate Chip Cookie Jars.  They are perfect!

7.  Hoping this little white jacket fits perfectly.

PS//  I had to reschedule my hair appointment.  Getting it cut this week.  I will update accordingly.  xoxo

throwback update | Where is June?

Yep, yep!  It’s #TBT, a little throw back Thursday.  I am following up on four posts from the past.  Often times I write a post and then have more to say about the topic after the fact.  Whether it be new information, a total fail, or a shift in thinking.

Limetown

I included the Limetown podcast in one of my In the Details posts.  There are only a few episodes right now {insert sad face emoji}, but holy cow!  While it is 100% fiction, it listens as if it is a first person investigative report.  The premise is a bit freaky.  An entire town’s population disappears under a cloak of mystery.  I listened to the second episode right before bed.  I will freely admit that I was totally scared and may have woke my husband up when I nearly jumped out of bed.   If you are spooked easily, I suggest NOT listening before bed.   Episode #3 was just released and I can’t wait.  Totally worth a listen!

Signature Scent

In this past post, I featured the notes I seem to love in perfume.  Upon research, it was evident that I tend to like more masculine scents.  Recently I came across a bottle of cologne I bought for my husband years ago.  {I actually think he was boyfriend when I gave it to him!}  He had it stashed in a drawer, so I decided to start wearing it.  This fall I have been layering his cologne with Elizabeth and James//Nirvana Black.  I totally suggesting giving yourself a light spray of men’s cologne-I think you may love it!

Pumpkin Brownies

Ok, so I really wanted these to be perfect. I featured them just last week in my latest In the Details post.  We did not love them.  However, I am willing to experiment and see if I can make them work.  First of all I used a gluten free brownie mix that was slightly smaller than the mix that was called for in the “recipe”.  I am thinking that the proportion of mix to pumpkin was off, which messed with the texture.  Also, I really wanted the “pumpkin spice” flavor and it was totally lacking.  I might try canned pumpkin pie filling or add pumpkin spice.  Stay tuned for possibly another follow up…..

Colorful Pouf

When planning to furnish our family room, I became obsessed with bright vintage kilim poufs.  Eventually I purchased two new poufs from Anthropologie.  Placed in front of our couch instead of a coffee table, they allow for flexible seating for the boys when they are playing video games and are a perfect place to put your feet up when watching a movie.  They are not available anymore.  I am SO happy I purchased them when I did.

in the details no 14 | Where is June?

It has been such a busy and exciting week.  New things on the horizon for me and it is thrilling to be challenging myself in different ways.  We are never to old to push ourselves.  To move outside our comfort zones.  That is when great things happen.

And in super important news…….

I am getting my haircut next week by a new stylist.  It is kind of like going on a blind date, isn’t it?  One is so full of hope and praying that “this is the one”!  Wish me luck.  You know how these things can go.

A collection of things that inspire and interest me this week:

1.  Two-ingredient pumpkin brownies.  Making these this weekend!

2.  Emily Henderson’s new book Styled was released this week.  I can’t wait to read mine.  Digging this room she styled with neutrals.

3.  How beautiful is this nubuck leather messenger bag?

4.  French girls just seem to have it, don’t they? {This “uniform” is spot-on.}

5.  Yep, pretty much in love with these baubles.

6.  This cut and color are so amazing!  {That is her natural color.}  I found my new stylist on Instagram.  Is that creepy?

7.  After sending out a Facebook SOS to source this wire grid, I can’t wait to have it on my new desk!

STRIKING CONTRASTS WITH SIMPLY WHITE

striking contrasts | Where is June?

{our family room}

Last week Benjamin Moore announced the Color of the Year for 2016.  And it is white.  More specifically, Simply White.  It was surprising, since there are like a billion paint colors.  But I have to say I love the choice.  Crisp and clean.  A blank canvas to build upon.  However, in full disclosure, I am totally biased.  I recently painted our family room white.  After much research and five pint size samples, I chose White Dove for the walls and Simply White for the trim. I loved Simply White because it was a true white.  The room makes me nothing but happy.

I took a risk when painting the interior doors glossy black.  My hope was that I would love the contrast.  I am so pleased with the results!  Actually, I love them.  The doors add interest to the white room.  It was a delight to read the narrative on Benjamin Moore’s website about using white and black.  It emphasizes striking contrasts and bold lines.

Well, there you go!  I couldn’t have said it better myself.  I am by no means a designer, so this is kind of awesome.  More importantly, it reaffirmed the importance to follow your gut and do what will make you happy in your home.  No matter a trend or a “of-the-moment” look, it has to be right for you!

How do you feel about white walls?  Do you love it or do you need more color in your life?

A few rooms in white:

As you can see, our family room is a work in progress. It is a very large, BLANK canvas.  Still working on it.  I promise that I will post more about the room.  Including a post about our vintage sliding door into our laundry room.  It was my harebrained idea that actually worked!

**Post not sponsored. Just inspired.
