{JUNE LOVES} COLORING BOOKS FOR GROWNUPS

just add color | Where is June?

I’m into it.  Coloring, that is!   Call it cheap therapy and a great way to pass the time in the dead of winter.  There is something about coloring that is very zen and relaxing.  Of course you can use any coloring book, but I wanted something that didn’t involve superheros or Transformers.  Instead, I found books made for adults that want to color again.  And since I am a grown up, I bought myself a pack of really nice pencils.  Want to come over and color?

Socality Barbie | Where is June?

Life is beautiful, white and bright, and perfectly curated. Well, at least it is for the creatives, hipsters, and the cool kids on Instagram.

So, how perfect is Socality Barbie?  A brunette, bombshell of a doll posing in all the cool Northwest spots, making your life look sad and depressing.  And totally making fun of all those living an authentic life and snapping shots of their artisan coffee.  Created by a Portland based photographer, choosing to remain anonymous, Socality Barbie is totally off the hook with over 1.2 million followers.  {Just two weeks ago, she only had 7,ooo!}  Personally, I laugh out loud every time a new post pops up in my feed.

Wired describes Socality Barbie:

Socality Barbie is a fantastic Instagram account satirizing the great millennial adventurer trend in photography. It’s an endless barrage of pensive selfies in exotic locales, arty snapshots of coffee, and just the right filter on everything. Anyone who’s flipped through an issue of Kinfolk gets the aesthetic. And it’s everywhere on Instagram.

The woman behind the account is a wedding photographer in Portland, Oregon, who wishes to remain anonymous so to preserve Socality Barbie’s authenticity. She created the Instagram about three months ago to poke fun at all the people hashtagging photos with #liveauthentic and #socality. The homogeneity of their authenticity and universality of their socality all but demanded satirization. “People were all taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same captions,” she says. “I couldn’t tell any of their pictures apart so I thought, ‘What better way to make my point than with a mass-produced doll?’”

The descriptions make the pictures ridiculously funny.  Take 5 minutes and read a few.  I promise it will totally make your Wednesday!

Oh, and who can forget the hashtags?  #liveauthentic #thatpnwlife #finditliveit #communityfirst

{JUNE LOVES} I HAVE THIS THING WITH FLOORS

this thing with floors

Just a quick pop-in post to say I love this Instagram account!  Most of you know I have a thing with taking pictures of my shoes.  {Big W makes fun of me and ironically takes secret pictures of his shoes on my phone for me to find.}

I Have This Thing With Floors is essentially a fan-based account.  You take a picture of an insanely cool floor {and your shoes}, hash tag it, and the account owner regrams pictures!

Floors and shoes from all over the world. What is better than that?  #ihavethisthingwithfloors

Happy Friday!  xoxo-d

ROADTRIP

Oh my goodness….there are new arrivals at Ban.do and all I can do is think about a road trip with just my girlfriends.  Thelma and Louise style {without the unfortunate end!}.

Packing List:

Overnight bag-I want to travel light, so I this is all I will take .

Small wristlet– Perfect for jumping in and out of the car to buy chips and candy.

Mobile charger– Having my phone die would be a bummer since I will be constantly posting to Instagram to annoy everyone back home.

Rebel bracelet -Since my girls are bad ass, we need these

Watermelon cooler bag– Cold beverages are required once we stop for the day

Koozies– Uh, they are awesome

Themal Mug– Coffee will be necessary

Where would we go?  Marfa, Texas.

cosmico

I have been obsessed about road tripping to Marfa ever since I saw this piece on 60 Minutes.  It is a town in the middle of Nowhere, Texas that has become a magnet for artists and free thinkers.  Perfect for a girls road trip!

Our route: Fly to Albuquerque. Hang out.  Rent a car.  Drive to Marfa.  Explore and stay.  Drive to San Antonio.  Eat and drink.  Fly home.

Too good, right? We would stay here and of course we won’t miss this!!

This trip isn’t booked, but I will make it happen.

Not sponsored. Just inspired.

{JUNE LOVES} HUMANS OF NEW YORK

humans of new york

This is a totally quick share today.  If you are not reading Humans of New York you must start today.  TODAY!  Brandon Stanton snaps a photos and interviews folks on the streets of New York.  His questions are provocative, which elicit unexpected responses.  His posts often restore my faith in humanity and remind me to be thoughtful of strangers.  Everyone has a story.

This recent post had over one million likes on Facebook alone!  It might be the best one EVER!  The story below that goes with the selfie of Tom Hanks and a cabbie:

“So get this. I’m driving down Park Avenue one day and this guy waves for me, so I pull over and I ask him where he’s going. He tells me 74th street, and I tell him that’s too far for me, because my shift just ended, so he says ‘thanks anyway’ and walks away. But then I think about it, and I start feeling bad for the guy, cause hey— I got a conscience. So I call him back to the cab and tell him to hop in. And he gets in the car all excited, all animated, and he’s talking about all these things. But he’s got his cap pulled down way over his eyes, so I can’t see who it is. But pretty soon I start to recognize his voice. And when we get to a light, I turn to him, and I look him in the eye, and I scream: “WIIIIIIILLLSSSSSOOOOOOON!!!” And that really got him. He started laughing hard. He sees that I’ve got this Ferrari hat on, and a Ferrari shirt too, so he starts calling me ‘Mr. Ferrari.’ The whole ride, he keeps calling me ‘Mr. Ferrari.’ So after we get to his destination, we snap a quick photo, and he goes on his way. And I think that’s it. But that’s not it, cause get this. Over the next few weeks, I just happen to randomly pick up people that know him. People who have acted with him before, people who work with him. And every time, I tell them: ‘Tell Mr. Hanks that Mr. Ferrari says ‘hello.’” Every time I say that. Then one day I’m driving, and I get a text from one of the people that I’d driven, and it says: ‘Mr. Hanks wants to invite you to see his Broadway show.’ So I bring my lady to the show, and we get to go backstage and everything, and after the show, we’re waiting for him in his dressing room, and he walks in and screams: ‘Mr. Ferrari!’ Can you believe that story? And you wanna know the craziest thing? The name of his show was ‘Lucky Guy.’ How crazy is that? Cause that was me. A lucky guy!”

You really must follow him and read his posts in some way:

Follow his website, or Facebook page, or his Instagram account.

There are also two books for purchase!

{JUNE LOVES} TED BAKER LONDON

ted baker london

Whoa!  I was buzzing through Nordstrom yesterday on a mission to get a pair of jeans to alterations.  I was literally stopped dead in my tracks by the most gorgeous leather jacket ever!  The exposed zippers, the fur collar, the delicious silk floral lining.  It is just too much!  The sleeves actually zip off and it converts to a vest-to make it even more amazing.  I had to try it on and snap a picture.  Ted Baker London is 100% outside my price point, but the clothes are magnificent.  I now have a major crush on this design house.

Sometimes a girl just has to dream.

Oh, and I literally couldn’t find THE jacket anywhere on the Nordstrom or Ted Baker London websites.  If you find it, let me know!  xo

Rank and Style roundup

You know that moment when your girlfriend walks into the party and she is wearing the most stunning earrings?  What is the first thing you ask her?  Where did you get those?  You know what they say- knowledge is power!  The hard part is we don’t all have time {or the energy} to be in the know.  Fret no more!  Rank & Style has you covered.  Seriously, it is kind of brilliant.

Rank & Style creates Top Ten lists using an algorithm {yes, I needed help spelling that} that researches and aggregates data from the department stores, boutiques, fashion blogs and style magazines you trust.  There is a new list each day and you can search all the past lists on their site.  They rank items in clothing, beauty, shoes, and accessories.  Looking for calf hair pumps?  They have a top ten list.  Need the best hair dryer?  There is a top ten list for that.  Awesome, right?

I really do love this site!  It is new {still in beta}, so check it out.  I really think they are on to something.

{JUNE LOVES} WHAT IS IT? MELAMINE

Monday, September 30th, 2013

What is itYes, I know.  I am painfully aware that it is NOT picnic season.  I thought of waiting to post about this latest find, but I just couldn’t.  I just found the What is It? melamine paper bowls in the gift department at Nordstrom [of all places] for 50% off.  Too good to pass up!  I had been looking to replace my Target kiddie melamine bowls.  Don’t get me wrong, they served us well.  It was just time for something a little more grown up! These babies are dishwasher safe and too cute for words.  They are truly exact replicas of the classic paper bowls.  I will keep them in a low drawer, so the boys can easily get to them, year round.

You probably won’t be running out to purchase summer party goodies [unless you can find them on sale like I did], but it is worth a “pin”.  There is always next year!!
