Oiselle Bird Machine

Do you follow fashion shows?  If you do, I am sure your social media feeds have been one image after another for the Spring/Summer trends for 2015.  If fashion isn’t your passion, just know that Fashion Weeks {first New York, then London, Paris and Milan to follow} happen in September.  Most of the clothes are either something I could never wear or could not afford.  However, for me it is fun to see new designs and how designers push the envelope.

The most inspiring show was New York Fashion Week like you have never seen it.  Oiselle, a women’s running apparel company, had real athletes walk the runway instead of professional models.  They walked the runway at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City last week debuting they spring/summer line for next year!  These girls are the real deal.  A hammer thrower, marathoners, moms, and all-together bad ass runners.  True elite athletes. Just check out those toned legs, amazing abs, and ridiculous muscles.

These women represent the best of what we can be.  Beautiful, confident, strong and successful.  I love the energy and spirit of this company. Who better to model your gear than the women who it is made for?  Just keep running, Oiselle!

To read a first hand account of the experience, read Dr. Sarah Lesko’s blog post about NWFW.

The New York Times took notice as well.  Read their article about Oiselle and Fashion Week.

THE {JUST KEEP RUNNING} PLAYLIST

just keep running playlist

Last month I ran the Lululemon SeaWheeze 1/2 Marathon in Vancouver BC.  My goal was finish under 2:00 hours.  Before I left, I built a play list.   I had one criteria when adding a song.  Did it make me want to keep running?  The playlist had to be the best ever!  Mission accomplished.

My sister-in-law told me I made her smile several times when she saw me snapping my fingers and grooving when a good song came on.  The songs that played through my ear buds that morning not only helped me put one foot in front of the other {over and over}, but they made smile.

A MOVIE FOR ONE

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

popcorn buckets 001

My husband and I have never been a couple that goes to see movies in the theater.  We are happy to wait for them to come to DVD or stream them at home.  Thanks to social media, I have been following the film festivals that are taking place this fall.  Telluride Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival {#tiff} both featured Wild, which I am dying to see!!  But now there are few more that I am adding to my list.  I will add them to my Netflix queue, but I am thinking of revisiting my Movie for One idea.  Finding time for a great movie mid-week, sounds kind of dreamy, right?

Here are the films on my “see sooner than later” list:

The Hundred Foot Journey

The Good Lie

Men, Women, & Children

Are there others that should be on my list?

TAILGATE NACHOS

tailgate nachos |WHERE IS JUNE?

Who doesn’t love a great gathering pre-game with delicious food and drink?  It is officially tailgate season.  You might the best thing that happened to your tailgate if you bring nachos.  This weekend at the home opener at Husky Stadium, I noticed portable grills a-plenty.  If you have a grill, you can have nachos.

So this isn’t really a recipe, but I will share how I did it!  First, I found an aluminum baking pan at the grocery store.  Next I assembled simple nachos.  I used chips, left over taco meat, diced green chilis, and black olives and cheese.  {You can make the nachos however you love them!}.  Cover with foil wrap and throw the pan in your cooler.

Once it is time to warm the nachos, simply place them on the grill covered until cheese was fully melted.  Remove the foil for a few minutes, so the cheese is extra bubbly and the chips get crispy.

Cover with diced green onions.  Serve with jalapenos, salsa, and guacamole.  I am telling you….they will L-O-V-E you!

Of course these nachos aren’t just for tailgates.  I actually brought them with me to a barbeque on Friday for an appetizer.

{Picture taken with my iPhone.  Didn’t want to look like a fool staging my food……}

A CALM START

Get it Done | Where is June?

And so begins another school year.  After what can be described as THE BEST SUMMER EVER, my kids started school this week with really very little fanfare.  Team Thomas is in a lovely spot where nothing is new, it is the same old thing, and the kids know how it all goes.  Being a veteran mama, I know this moment of calm will not remain.   Stealing a line from Ms. Winfrey, this I know for sure.  In the past, I would worry about what is to come-but worry is futile.  Not sure I would call it wisdom, but it feels good to simply enjoy where we are RIGHT now.

After a couple days of spinning my wheels, I got some sh*t done yesterday.  I wrote a to do list and threw all I needed in a “run around” bag.  After a hard {mostly uphill} run, I finished my errands in an hour or so.  As a helpful friend, I thought I would share the info on a few items that ended up in my bag.

Amazingly awesome thank you cards from Rifle Paper Co.   I have long overdue thank you notes to write and these are just perfect.

Dinner: The Playbook by Jenny Rosenstrach.  This new cookbook is going to change my life.  That may be a stretch but I am totally excited about it.  It is a 30-day plan for mastering the art of the family meal. I will share more in the weeks to come.  My husband is more than thrilled that I am looking forward to cooking dinner after months of having no interest.

Instagram prints from Walgreens.  Using the mobile app I was able to make prints of Instagram photos for Little Man’s homework assignment.  I truly adore the 4×4 size of the prints.  You might say I am obsessed with Instagram and its prints!

Thanks for being patient for new blog posts.  Life as a full time mom-especially during the summer- is a juggling act.  I SO appreciate your support.  Remember to like Where is June? on Facebook, follow me on Instagram and Twitter, and subscribe right here for new posts to be delivered to your inbox.

Have a great weekend!

I actually loved the colors from the Men’s collection but my feet are too small. My top pick would be the Women’s Vantage in green.

DRESS FOR A HEAT WAVE

sunny long weekend

It is a legitimate heat wave! When temperatures hover around 90 degrees in Seattle, things get a little nutty.  I, for one, L O V E it!  We are heading into another GORGEOUS weekend and it is shaping up to be an amazing summer.

I came across the blog of illustrator Cindy Mangomini.  Her fashion illustrations are fantastic. { I wish I had an ounce of her artistic talent.}  Check out how she styled and sketched the must haves for a sunny long weekend {above} and a day at the beach {below}.  I am taking notes!

Check out the rest of her perfectly styled work.

Have a great weekend.  Stay cool. xoxo

A FAVORITE MOVIE LINE

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014

crazy-stupid-love-hannah-and-jacob

There are lines in movies that just stick with you.  Sometimes they are poetic or thought provoking.  Sometimes they are just laugh out loud funny!  My favorite line in Crazy, Stupid, Love. is during the scene when Emma Stone {Hannah} goes home with Ryan Gosling {Jacob} for the first time.

“Will you take your shirt off?  F#*k!  Seriously?  It’s like your Photoshopped!”

So good, right?  She said what everyone was thinking. I love that!  I wasn’t a huge Ryan Gosling fan before I saw this movie.  {I know!  All of you Notebook fans just audibly gasped.}  However, there is something about him.

Rumor has it that he is going to have a baby with Eva Mendez.  That might possibly be the best looking offspring, EVER!

What are your favorite movie lines?

Happy Wednesday.

GALLERY WALL INSPIRATION

Where is June?| simple gallery wall

If you follow me on Pinterest, you already know about my small obsession with gallery walls.  I have pinned and pinned and pinned.  I want one, badly.  The problem is – I have done nothing.  Well, that is not entirely true.  I have purchased three pieces that I love.  They all happen to be black and white.  I am clearly drawn to clean and simple.  The gallery walls above reflect a monochromatic or a simple aesthetic.  On the total flip side, I love walls that are colorful, eclectic, and haphazard.

Where is June?| Eclectic gallery wall

What is a girl to do?  Here are my problems/questions:

1.  A gallery wall can be expensive to get going.  You have to find the pieces and frame each one!  Yikes – that can add up.  I have three pieces that I think are a good start.  {However, like I said above they are all black and white.}  Is three enough?  Should I add color to the mix?

2.  The frames themselves also pose a dilemma.  Do you choose the same color or go for all the frames different?  I like the look of mixed frame color and I think it will be easier in the long run.   That is easier said than done.  I love vintage frames.  Where do you find those?  Mats or no mats?

3.   Do I stick with all prints or do I toss in a few photos?  I kind of love the idea of framing some Instagram shots from our travels and adventures.  They would be easy to change frequently so the wall is always current and interesting.  Good idea?

And again my head is swimming and my dining room wall stands bare.  HELP!  Anyone out there have amazing tips and is willing to share?  Do tell!

SCENES FROM OUR WEEK

A WEEK IN THE SUMMER

I hope you had a wonderful long, holiday weekend.  Ours was full of water, sun, friends and fun!  So much fun, that Big Will was in bed asleep at 5:30pm Sunday night.  The forecast shows the great weather continuing this week and summer rolls on!

Here are just a few snap shots from our week {from top left, clockwise}:

1.  Sporting my new camo pants.  I love the feminine camouflage pattern and the touch of purple.  They are meant to be ankle jeans, but when you are 5’0″ that isn’t the case.  Somehow with the zippers it works.

2.  Little Man is loving the water balloon sling shot we gave Aaron for Father’s Day.  Hours of fun.  Filling, tying, slinging and getting wet!

3.  Big W picking raspberries to make jam.  Raspberry freezer jam is the sweetest and easiest jam to make!  You could do it today.

4.  Totally obsessed with this bag from Salt Surf.  I tossed all my essentials in it for a quick singles match with my sweet husband.  This color is sold out on their website, but they have other colors available.

Have a great week!
