I was watching the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and instantly became obsessed with Team Slovakia’s mittens! As my husband and kids continued to watch the Parade of Nations- betting on who had the largest delegation- I jumped online to search for those mittens! It wasn’t easy, but I found a few shots of the white graphic mittens with the fantastic red heart! The scarves and hats were pretty great too! I vote Slovakia Best Dressed. The ladies’ mittens were equally as awesome in red with a white heart {Sorry. No picture.}
Gimme those mittens!
So far no one is selling Team Slovakia’s mittens, so I was driven to do a quick round-up of heart inspired mittens. I kind of love the options. Warm weather gear that also warms the heart. Awww.
Modern girls {or women, if you prefer} are busier than ever. Our days might include a day at the office, school runs, volunteer hours, an endless number of errands, driving kids to practice, and an evening meeting. Occasionally we may sneak in coffee with girlfriends or a date night with our favorite guy. Wow! We are amazing, aren’t we?
And hey, even us girls of a certain age want to look our very best while out and about. I talked my gorgeous sister-in-law, Piper, into helping me with a post that shows by simply changing up your hair and adding accessories -you can change your look entirely. Since she wears glasses, we also took advantage of the Warby Parker free Home Try-On program. Warby Parker is an on-line eyewear boutique. Their glasses start at just $95. At that price you can have more than one pair. Change your frames. Change your frame of mind.
Five different frames. Five different looks. Look what we put together:
1. A School Run
Let’s be honest. When you are running the kids to school, you don’t want to take more than a few minutes, if that, to get yourself ready. Low maintenance is key. Throw on a cozy zip-up and a cute striped beanie- you are out the door . {Love the beanie for hiding morning, bed head!} Piper is wearing BAXTER in Catalina Blue.
2. Coffee with Girlfriends
It is such a treat to have time with girlfriends. Nothing fancy, just relaxed fun. These tortoise frames are awesome all by themselves! Wow! Add a color block sweater and big gold hoops and it’s time to catch up with your best girls. Piper is wearing MALLORY in Gimlet Tortoise.
3. Charity Board Meeting
Sometimes we need to look sharp and on point. {Those of you who work outside the home do this everyday.} The color blocking on these frames is unique but the shape keeps the look professional. I love the crisp white shirt with a geometric print tank. Completely modern. Finish the look with smooth straight hair, simple studs, and a bold necklace. You are ready to kick butt and take names. Piper is wearing ZAGG in Tennessee Whiskey
4. Date Night
Yessss. A night out! Time to loosen things up a bit. Tousle your hair and think sexy. {Isn’t she a knock out?} Dress up a silk blouse with a large, statement necklace and go with a bolder lip. Baby, you are hot to trot. Piper is wearing LINWOOD in Revolver Black.
5. Farmers’ Market
Time to be the casual hipster! A colorful {edgy} scarf and loose curls under a fedora is nothing but happy and carefree. Don’t you wish everyday was market day? Piper is wearing MILES in Revolver Black.
Now, your turn. Time to go to your closet. Choose your go-to outfit of the moment. Pull out all of your accessories. {All of them.} I bet, if you are creative, you can change up that outfit at least three ways with accessories you already own. Let me know what you come up with!
I was inspired this week by style blogger, Emily Jackson. She rocked a plaid jacket and leopard shoe boots. While I absolutely love the look, the shoes don’t quite fit my lifestyle. With some diligent searching, and Emily’s genius mixing of prints as inspiration, I was able to create a new mom uniform!
Ok. I die for these shoes. The perfect mix of leopard fab and casual cool! Everything else {plaid top, denim, crossbody bag, and a jeweled necklace} already live in my closet! With one purchase this could be my new uniform.
Last weekend my girlfriend invited me over for a glass of wine and a sneak peek at all of her newest Stella and Dot baubles. Comfy in my sweats and my hair pulled into a top knot, I played dress up- trying on samples from the Spring 2014 Collection. These new arrivals make me long for warmer weather and lighter clothing!
I quickly compiled a wish list in my head. Upon review they all had a common theme: yellow + gold. It is official. I am gold crazy {more gold postings here, here and here}! The yellow is what is surprising! I don’t own anything yellow. Come to think of it, I am not really sure if I look good in yellow. All rational thinking went out the window when I laid eyes on those gorgeous chandelier earrings. I mean really! Love at first glance.
Accessories are the easiest way to be creative when getting dressed. Since September I have been wearing my Mae, Somervell, Christina necklace trio constantly. All three equals a dramatic punch of glam. Wearing one or two gives some pop to a casual outfit. I can’t get enough of these gorgeous beauties. Since I know you will love them too, I have partnered with my favorite Stella & Dot stylist, Regan McCrary, to give away the Mae Necklace to one of my readers.
You can mix and match these pieces countless ways. Why not experiment a little? {Grown-ups can have fun too!} How about a casual flannel with a little bit of sparkle?
Or, add a hair tie to the double clasps of the Somerville and wear it in your hair. Yes, it’s that easy!
To enter this giveaway, visit Regan’s Stella & Dot page and leave a comment here telling me which item(s) you would put on your wish list. {There are so many to choose from.} Entries must be posted by Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 9am PST, and one winner will be chosen at random.
** The giveaway is now closed. Congratulations Randi S! I hope you love this necklace as much as I do.
{Limited to U.S. readers. $49 USD total value. The winner will be announced on the Where is June? Facebook page and by email.}
You know that moment when your girlfriend walks into the party and she is wearing the most stunning earrings? What is the first thing you ask her? Where did you get those? You know what they say- knowledge is power! The hard part is we don’t all have time {or the energy} to be in the know. Fret no more! Rank & Style has you covered. Seriously, it is kind of brilliant.
Rank & Style creates Top Ten lists using an algorithm {yes, I needed help spelling that} that researches and aggregates data from the department stores, boutiques, fashion blogs and style magazines you trust. There is a new list each day and you can search all the past lists on their site. They rank items in clothing, beauty, shoes, and accessories. Looking for calf hair pumps? They have a top ten list. Need the best hair dryer? There is a top ten list for that. Awesome, right?
I really do love this site! It is new {still in beta}, so check it out. I really think they are on to something.
Ever meet a girl and instantly know you could be friends? I know you would feel this way if you met Kim Guillet. She is the passionate, down to earth, creative force behind Kim Caron Designs. Her unique, hand-made jewelry is gorgeous. Her pieces range from statement rings to delicate necklaces and everything in between. {I am personally in love with druzy quartz. It is just so darn dreamy. Just look at that fabulous ring!}
I am trying something new. Just for fun, I decided to ask Kim a few questions about her designs and her inspiration. There is no better way to get to know someone!
When and why did you launch Kim Caron Designs?
I launched Kim Caron Designs last April. My neighbor Karla talked me into having a trunk show at her house. She has been such a supportive friend.
How did you get your start designing jewelry?
Over 20 years ago I was introduced to jewelry design- it was at Mercer Island High School. I had an awesome teacher, Laurie Hall, and I took the class multiple times. About 3 years ago I was admiring my friend Amy’s Jamie Joseph ring and realized I wanted to make something like that! I signed up for classes at BCC, Danica Design, and Pratt in Seattle to learn jewelry fabrication all over again. I still take classes all the time. There is so much to learn- it’s endless.
What inspires you when designing?
I find inspiration everywhere–from my friends, from the stones themselves, from looking outside at color combinations and of course from Pinterest!
Your studio is so charming. What do you love about it?
I love my studio. My husband Marin built it for me for our 15th anniversary. I think he was also motivated to get his workbench back. I had taken it over in the garage. For me time flies in the studio- I feel like I always have something new I want to try.
How do you name the pieces in your collection?
Every piece of jewelry is named after a little girl I know. My nieces Gracie and Sadie gave me that idea.
It’s a Monday morning. What jewelry are you wearing?
Right now I’m wearing the callie “hope” heart pendant necklace. 100% of proceeds from this necklace go to Ben Towne Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research. I hope to sell tons of these!!! I know Ben’s mom from college and have been absolutely floored by her strength and determination. I wanted to give 10% of all sales to a charity I believed strongly in. It was the perfect fit. Ben’s story is at bentownefoundation.org. You will cry.
Well, well well. Neon is back again. Have you found yourself asking, “Am I too old for this?” There is a fine line between dressing on-trend and dressing like a teenager. I do love neon. In the late 80’s, I had the most amazing pair of neon pink, lace fingerless gloves. [Seriously, right?] Today, I keep the neon as pops of color on clothing and accessories. Just enough to say, “I can still rock it.” If you really like a trend, find a way to subtly work into your wardrobe. Have fun and be brave.
I will admit I have gone a bit gold crazy. It wasn’t that long ago that I wouldn’t even think of it! My engagement and wedding rings are platinum and for years I would only wear silver or white gold accessories. Recently, I have thrown caution to the wind and dove into gold head first! I was so excited when I browsed on Moorea Seal‘s new online shop. It was overflowing with gold treasures! I gathered a few of my favorites, but honestly there are just so many it was hard to choose! I met Moorea Seal at the Altitude Design Summit in San Francisco. Her curated store is just over a week old! Pop over and check it out! “Do good, do great” is their motto. With each purchase, 7% of proceeds are donated to non-profit organizations. Nothing better than doing good while shopping!

Summer tanks and maxi dresses are calling out to be accessorized. There is nothing better than wearing simple earrings and a stacked wrist! I love that you can layer many kinds of bracelets together. Mix and match. The more the better. Scrounge around in your drawers and jewelry boxes and find bracelets that you haven’t worn in a long time. Play with different combinations until you find one you like. The stack can change with your mood or your outfit. It is all about having fun. Go for it.
Feeling inspired? Snap a pic and Instagram your stacked wrist. [Tag me. @seattlejune]
