four to follow

Do you Instagram??  It is quickly becoming my favorite social-media site.  Something about  4×4 pictures that makes me outrageously happy!  I decided to start a series called Four to Follow.  Just a quick heads up on four accounts I think you might like {or love}!  If you are not on Instagram, I highly recommend it.  Come play…it’s super fun!

@darlingmagazine

The official account for the magazine Darling.  As self described: “Darling isn’t just a magazine, it’s a movement. Our print magazine is a guidebook to lead you through the seasons of the year and your life. We exist to encourage and empower women and be a voice of love.”  I subscribe to the print magazine as well as follow them on Instagram.  I am blown away by their mission and their pictures are inspiring.  Darling is the art of being a woman.

@ascotandhart

Ascot and Hart is an online store founded by the girls behind Target Does It Again.  Their style is mix between boho and grunge.  I always love the outfits they put together and their original style!

@taylorsterling

Taylor Sterling is the founder of Glitter Guide.  Her account is flooded with details from her everyday life, Glitter Guide adventures and her darling baby girl, Elodie.

@dschwen

The Instagram account of David Schwen is creative in every sense.  I can’t really put his images into words….you just have to see them!  Each day I smile when I see his fun and original posts.

MY PERFECT WHITE T

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

my perfect white T

Everyone needs the basic wardrobe staple, a plain white T.  I love denim paired with a white t-shirt.  Add a few accessories and you have the perfect no fuss outfit!   While it may seem ridiculous, I have four STEADFAST requirements for t-shirts {of any color}.  Everyone’s body type calls for a different type of t-shirt.

The following describes my perfect white T:

A “V” or scoop neckline.  I am quite busty.  These two necklines are the most flattering for girls with curves up top.

Light weight cotton.  The lighter material the better. Heavy cotton T’s add bulk, which no one wants.  Be careful when buying thin white T’s.  Unless you plan to wear a bright, colorful bra {a bold move} you don’t want the T to be see through.  Make sure to try it on with the bra you plan to wear.

Short/cap sleeve.  A cap sleeve is the most flattering on me.  The sleeve hem hits right at the thinnest part of my arm. I don’t know about you, but I usually judge a picture a “keeper” if my arms look good.

A loose but feminine cut.   Thanks to my children and middle-age my mid-section is the least favorite part of my body.  If the t-shirt is too tight, it only accentuates this “problem area” {God, I hate that term!}.  I prefer a loose, but feminine, cut that skims my body but doesn’t cling to my tummy.

So that is my perfect T.  If I had a different body type I would love to play with the classic T and tons of layered necklaces or a boat neck t-shirt paired with classic trousers.  But I don’t, so I stick to what looks best on me.

Have you thought about it?   What are the requirements for YOUR perfect white T?

Bottom T-shirt:  Splendid Very Light Jersey Scoop Neck

CRAZY FOR CAMO

where is june camo

It is no secret that I am crazy for camo.  I keep waiting to grow out of it, but then I spot a new piece of camouflage apparel and I am sunk once again!  Camo is that perfect touch of tough.  I love pairing it with bold jewelry and light fabrics in bright colors.  I really think anyone, no matter their age or their style, can wear camouflage.  If a jacket or pants is too much for you, how about a scarf, a watch, or a cute pair of flats?   Just dare yourself to give it a try.  Be fearless with fashion!

JUICE BOX: A DAY OF JUICE

juice box 1 day cleanse

So yesterday was a day of juice.  And nothing else.  My brother has been raving about the benefits of juicing for well over a year.  He decided to do a massive juice cleanse after watching Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.  I have not seen the movie and, frankly, am a little frightened to watch it!  My brother loves the way he feels when he is “juicing” and he looks healthier than ever.  Of course when any one is looking great, you are tempted to try it too!  Not willing to invest the money in an expensive juicer, I decided to try a local company that presses their own juice and delivers!  I ordered a 1-day juice cleanse from Juice Box {Seattle}.  I considered doing a three day cleanse, but thought it might be smart to try it for just a day and see how it goes.  You can do anything for a day, right?

My juice was delivered to me in the morning.  The cleanse includes six-16 oz juice bottles.  You are to drink them throughout the day.  No food, just juice and water.  Have you considered doing a juice cleanse? Wondering how it went for me?

1.  96 oz of juice is a lot of juice to drink.  I was going pee about every five minutes.

2.  I did not feel hungry during the day, which was a pleasant surprise.  I was famished around 7:30pm.

3.  Not surprisingly, the juice largely consisting of fruit juices were delicious.  My favorite was carrot, orange, turmeric root.

4.  I was completely scared of the green juice.  Maybe a pretty glass and cute straw would make it easier to drink?  Kale, romaine, celery, cucumber, spinach, apple, lemon.  Nope, not even the stripey-paper straw helped with this one.  I am not a fan.

5.   I worked out {a barre class} and had plenty of energy.

6.  Almond milk with local raw honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg was delicious for lunch.

Could I do it for two more days?  Probably.  {My brother did his cleanse for 10 days. That’s just plain nuts.}  If you are interested in learning more about a juice cleanse, the Juice Box blog is a must read. It details interesting information about juicing, body types, and nutrition.  Moving forward, I will most likely drink pressed juice after a high-intensity workout.   I do highly recommend Juice Box-Seattle and I look forward to visiting the Juice Box Cafe.

STREET STYLE // MY STYLE

street style my style

I am totally infatuated with street style photography.  Whether it is truly someone walking down the street or 100% posed by a fashion blogger, it doesn’t really matter to me.  I continually try to find pieces and looks that work for my body type, my taste, and my lifestyle.  Taking street style and making it my style.  Some looks might not work, but I love taking risks.  Do I worry that I am too old for a silk bomber jacket or ripped boyfriend jeans?  Short answer.  Hell, no.  Life’s too short.  Wear what you want!  xo

FIND TIME TO READ: THE GOLDFINCH

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

the goldfinch

I may be late to this party, but I am completely engrossed in the new book, The Goldfinch.  The story is just starting to build and I cannot put it down.  Action, mystery and intrigue begin on the very first page.  At 771 pages, it isn’t a light read.  I purchased the book in hardback and the cover is beautiful.  The pages of the book are silky smooth-almost like those in a dictionary.  Sorry.  Still a total sucker for a “real” book.   I am not sure how the plot will unfold, but I am truly excited about this book.

Have you already read The Goldfinch?  What did you think?  No spoilers!  xoxo

GO GREEN!

go green  Where is June

So as I was cruising through the aisles at IKEA last week and I spotted these simple white planters.  I loved them.  White seems to be overtaking my home decor recently.  Instead of just buying the planters and figuring out how to use them later, I bought plants too! {You have to love IKEA for its one stop shopping.}   This is huge.  I am not a gardener nor is there one plant in my home.  Well, until now.  Now there are two.  At $1.99 for the pot and $2.49 for the plant there is little to no risk here.  I really like how they look on my tables and I am just hoping I can keep them alive!

If things go well, I have my sights set on a few small succulents and a large Fiddle-Leaf Fig.  All available at IKEA.  Who knew?

{FRIDAY MATINEE} BAD WORDS

Friday, January 31st, 2014

bad words

I have dropped out of numerous book clubs because I never seem to read the book and always feel guilty showing up for the discussion unprepared.  Who needs one more thing to feel guilty about?  However, I do love spending time with girlfriends.  So a friend and I decided we would start a movie club.  Once a month.  Friday matinée.  Right now it is a club of two, but membership has its privileges.  Seeing a matinée during the week is a decadent treat!  This month we saw American Hustle.  Oh, my lord.  I am sure you have all seen it, but if you haven’t…run don’t walk to your nearest theater.  The hair and costumes alone make it PURE entertainment.  Amy Adams was fantastic and Jennifer Lawrence plays crazy like no one else!

During the previews, we selected our movie for March.  Bad Words.  A spelling bee loser, played by Jason Bateman, sets out to exact revenge by finding a loophole and attempting to win as an adult.  Watch the trailer.  The humor is so offensive you can’t help but laugh out loud.  I love Jason Bateman and really can’t wait to see it.

Since it doesn’t come out until March, what shall we see in February?  Send me any tips on must-see movies!  Have a wonderful weekend.

{Warning:  This trailer is not PG.  Watch without children in the room}

closet + instagram love | Where is June

When I was placing the art work in my closet, I had small spaces that needed something.  An extra frame made it look too cluttered and I didn’t want that!   I was working toward open and inspiring, so it took me awhile to figure out what to do.  Then in the middle of the night it came to me!  I needed to print some of my Instagram snapshots.  I am constantly posting pictures of my shoes and it they would be PERFECT in my closet.

instagram + shoes | Where is June

So I printed these Instagram photos using the free Walgreens app.  It is so darn easy.  Connect to your account, choose the photos you want to print, send them, and pick them up in an hour.   I printed the 4×4 size for $0.39 a piece.  YES!!  Thirty nine cents!  {You could also print in 8×8 which would be fun if you wanted to frame it}.  For $1.56 {plus tax} I had small, personal pieces of art to add to my closet.  I used gold washi tape to hang them.

How easy is that?

Do you follow me on Instagram?  Well, why the heck not?  Come join the party!  Follow me @seattlejune.
