mom uniform:: camo fun

mom uniform:: camo fun by juneheartsfashion

Spring in Seattle is not warm.  However, it is time to ditch the puffy jacket and tall boots.   Why not have a little fun while you are at it?
I will admit.  This girl is a total sucker for camouflage.  Lately I have been wearing: skinny jeans, a feminine top, and a camo jacket, light colored booties, and a fun colorful clutch.
How would you fit camouflage into your spring wardrobe?

volunteer park cafe

Monday, April 1st, 2013
I had lunch [again] last week at Volunteer Park Cafe.  Nestled in a residential Seattle neighborhood, it is a lovely spot for a meal. The food is fresh and delicious.  The incredibly friendly staff make you feel right at home.  However, what I truly love is their attention to the little things.
{galvanized buckets with stacks of fresh baked goods}

{gumballs near the register}
{fresh flowers arranged on the long community table}
{garden herbs planted in sidewalk boxes}
The little thing are what make you linger after your meal and keep you coming back time and again.

a cozy desk chair

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

I long for a desk to call my own.  I have a very small built-in desk in the kitchen big enough for my computer.  That is it.  If you follow me on Pinterest, you will see an entire board dedicated to this simple idea.  A workspace-just for me.

Recently, I have a small obsession with faux fur throws to cozy up a desk [or dining] chair.

However, sometimes the trouble with an obsession on Pinterest is being able to find a source to purchase!  I traveled down a blogger rabbit hole and finally came up with a lead.  IKEA.  And of course, they are no longer available.  I am hoping it is a seasonal item and will be back in stock next fall or winter.
A girl can dream.
What are your tricks to finding an item you have seen but don’t know quite how to get your hands on it?

twenty thirteen

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

Do you feel like this?  I am not sure why but for some reason…I do.  There is this inner voice chanting to me…”It’s gonna be awesome!”  There is nothing life changing on the horizon for me this year.  No milestone events, anniversaries or birthdays.  And that’s why I am so darn excited.  I feel like nothing is out of the realm of possibility.

I am not making any resolutions, because I feel like they are always attached to some sort of guilt.  The world doesn’t need more people feeling guilty.  Our world needs happy, fulfilled people loving life and those around them!

Things I would love in 2013:  more glitter, long runs, day trips, finished projects, a home full of joy, getaways with my husband,  delicious meals, time alone with each of my boys, no homework, a snow day, time to myself, tons of average moments free of worry,  a super hot summer, great books, cups of hand-crafted coffee,  strong arms and toned tummy [the tummy is a long shot!], patience, abundant creativity….

What things would you love to come your way this year?

oddfellows

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

I am totally digging my new plan to meet up with friends.  I will call it my, “Let’s do breakfast.” plan.  Lunch is great, but it happens right in the middle of the day. [Funny how that works!].  With lots to do, meeting a friend right after I drop the kids off at school allows me ample time after to get sh*t done!  With a bit of rummaging, I have been finding some amazing places that serve mid-week breakfast.

I recently lingered over a breakfast at Oddfellows Cafe + Bar.  Exposed brick, repurposed furniture and fixtures, and tons of light make this Capitol Hill eatery comfortable and easy.  They are open 8am-late daily-with a full bar.  Breakfast was delicious, so I can only assume lunch and dinner would be too!  Oddfellows gains total bonus points being next door neighbors with Elliott Bay Book Co.  That is a perfect one, two punch!

toulouse petit

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

“Daytime drinking has never been been so dignified, fun, and guilt-free….”

Who wouldn’t love a restaurant with a motto like that?  I had a long, indulgent breakfast this week at Toulouse Petit Kitchen and Lounge.  It sits on the corner of Queen Anne Blvd. and Mercer Street in lower Queen Anne [Seattle].

The rustic art-nouveau decor invites you to linger over your press coffee and make tough menu decisions!  Sweet or savory?  I went with savory this time!

Eggs Benedict with Dungeness Crab and Fine Herbs.
It was so incredibly delicious!  Our waitress offered her Top 5 menu items.
  • Cured Pork Cheeks Confit Hash
  • Duck Confit Hash
  • Spicy Shrimp Creole and Eggs over Creamy Grits
  • Eggs Benedict with Dungeness Crab with Fine Herbes
  • Crème Caramel French Toast
Even better, Monday-Friday [8-11] is Breakfast Happy Hour.  Most items are only $8.  SO grab a friend [or a few] and head to Toulouse Petit for a mid-week breakfast!

mom uniform:: summer layers

summer layers
It hasn’t been that warm around the Pacific Northwest in recent weeks.   [That might be the understatement of the century, but I won’t get started.]  It is also still raining…a lot.   Now, while I would love to be wearing my cut-offs, breezy tops and summer sandals, it is simply not feasible when the high reaches 58 degrees.
So, enter my recent “cold summer day” uniform.  My Splendid maxi skirt keeps my legs warm, a favorite long and lean tank from Target [my affection has been documented], and a Gap jean jacket.  And how do I accessorize?  Chuck Taylors to keep my toes dry in the downpours, a scarf [with a pop of color] to keep me from shivering, and my Ray-Bay aviators.  I also roll up the sleeves on the jacket and layer bracelets.  I am certainly not happy about this weather and I am desperately trying to mix in a few summer pieces.
Bring on summer.  Please

sprung for spring

sprung for spring by juneheartsfashion featuring a cross body shoulder bag

Just fell in love with polyvore.com!  Look what I put together in just a matter of minutes. You really must try it out.  Just jump on over to polyvore, click on create, and off you go.

I did create an account, juneheartsfashion, which lets me save my creations and share with all of you.  Sure would like to wear this outfit tomorrow, but it is entirely too cold [still!].
I own the Hudson cropped jeans, a trapeze tank top, the Ray-ban aviators, the Splendid sandals, and colorful scarf.  I dream of the Marc Jacobs cross-body bag and the kick-ass biker jacket would be a great top layer for a Seattle spring.

[For all you “pinners” out there, you can create and pin to Pinterest.]

Cuoco

Friday, February 24th, 2012
Ventured out to the “New Seattle” last night.  That is what I call South Lake Union.  You seriously must run on down there- if you haven’t already.  Brightly lit shops, inviting restaurants, a bustle of people, great architecture.  (Can you tell I liked it?)
I dined at Cuoco.  A newer Tom Douglas eatery.  It was delicious!  The ambiance was warm. The service was superb.  The food?  Fantastic!
Our indulgences:
I shared with my sister in law:
20 month aged parma proscuitto, honey crisp apples, arugula
Roasted beets, mache, almonds, goat cheese, apples, cider vinaigrette
I ordered:
Bucatini – hollow dried wheat pasta, marinara, brasied beef meatballs
Had planned on leaving some to snack on today but I couldn’t stop myself.  It was that good!
She had:
Agnolotti dal plin – house-made filled pinched egg pasta, rabbit, veal, pork, marjoram butter
Tiny, delicate bow tie raviolis. Simple and perfect.
**If you or someone you love must eat gluten free, they have a gf pasta that can be used as a substitute in almost any dish.   That makes us smile in this house.
Give Cuoco a try on your next night out.  Happy Weekend. xoxoxo

moving up in the world

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

For those who shop in downtown Seattle often or just every so often- the Nordstrom Rack is moving up in the world. Or at least up Pine St.

  Snapped this shot in front of Westlake Center.  Spring 2012 is looking brighter already!

Where is June?
