The GenX generation rocked fashion in a big way! The 80’s fashion trends pushed boundaries and the establishment hated most of it. While some looks ARE cringe worthy- I argue that we can embrace the overall vibe still today. Thankfully the bygone rules of “dressing your age” are continually broken by women over 40. With changing bodies and current trends in mind, I am looking to give a subtle nod to my fashion past. Want to give it try?
Neon- The 80’s over indexed on the head-to-toe neon outfits. (See above; cringe worthy). However, I have a nostalgic love for my neon green and orange Body Glove swimsuit. Today an accessory can give that pop of neon color. Ditch the Apple watch and put on a Swatch Watch or wear a statement choker. Either would give any outfit a little fun!

Body Suit- Is it possible that Jane Fonda is the only human who can rock a gold body suit with a belt? Mind boggling that she somehow made it work! Today a body suit works on its own or as a layering piece. Of course the key is finding one that is comfortable and easy on/off in the bathroom. A great go-to is a tank style bodysuit with jeans.

Jellies- Oh man! I loved my jelly shoes. Not sure what else I need to say about these colorful flats. I purchased a red pair last summer. Yep, still love them! I will freely admit that they are not the most comfortable and are probably best to wear in the evening. Plastic doesn’t breath well in the heat of a summer day. You can go with the classic 80’s jelly or choose a more modern take. Either way -I am solidly #teamjelly!

Summer is on the horizon! I urge you to have a little fun when getting dressed. Adding something from our fashion past is just the way to do it!
