{MOM UNIFORM} CONCERT COOL

mom uniform concert cool

This girl is going to concert tomorrow.  Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I went to a show.  Since I am not out partying like a rock star most nights, why not take this chance to dress up a bit?  I always love the challenge of finding age appropriate clothes that still maintain just a bit of edge.  Girls of a certain age {and yes, I fall into the category} need to be careful.  There is an extremely fine line between rocking cool and “trying too hard”.

In an effort to try to wear more skirts and dresses, let’s start with a brown leather skirt.  {While the one pictured above is breathtakingly beautiful, REDValentino is not in my budget.  I would go with this skirt instead.  I love the rough edges and flirty length-which isn’t too short when you are 5’0″!}  Pair it with a simple, black silk tank.  The accessories add the edge.  An awesome pair of black heels, a snake clutch, and over-the-top wing ear cuffs!

I can’t wait to see Katy Perry’s amazing costumes and her sets.  OH, and the music too, of course!

{MOM UNIFORM} MIXED PRINTS

uniform

I was inspired this week by style blogger, Emily Jackson.  She rocked a plaid jacket and leopard shoe boots.  While I absolutely love the look, the shoes don’t quite fit my lifestyle.  With some diligent searching, and Emily’s genius mixing of prints as inspiration, I was able to create a new mom uniform!

Ok.  I die for these shoes.  The perfect mix of leopard fab and casual cool!  Everything else {plaid top, denim, crossbody bag, and a jeweled necklace} already live in my closet!  With one purchase this could be my new uniform.

{MOM UNIFORM} MODERN COCKTAIL

Modern Cocktailpunch it up with glam

Auctions, benefits, a night out with your honey.  They all call for cocktail attire.  This is my Modern Cocktail uniform.  I love separates because it allows greater versatility for me.  It isn’t often I am running to school pick-up in a LBD, but I could throw on a simple silk top with jeans and not look out of place.

The rules for this uniform are simple.  The classic black trouser, with a long hem, is the base for this look.  Pair it with a black silk top and sexy black pumps.  Yes, that’s right.  Black on black on black.  Punch it up with glam accessories such as an over the top clutch and bold, layered necklaces.  {You might already have all the pieces in your closet.}

Give it try on date night or for your next event.  Worried? Don’t!  You will love it.  Haters be warned because you are too {damn} classy!

PS.  The above items are “dream” selections for my closet.  I do own black trousers, a silk top, black pumps, and a glittery clutch.  Just not these gorgeous pieces.  It all still works!

BACK TO SCHOOL: MOM UNIFORM

Mom needs a new back to school outfit too!  Right?  After a summer’s worth of cut-offs, breezy tank tops and flip flops, I am ready to dive into fall as well.  September is usually gorgeous here in Seattle, so it isn’t quite time to break out fall sweaters and boots.  I would love to walk my boys to school that first day in this outfit.  Colorful shorts, black flats and a loose fitting blazer.  I would wear a tank under to keep it casual.  {Come day two, you will most likely find me in workout gear and running shoes.}  I hope you are all geared up for school.  I am not sure I am. The pace will quicken, the stress will increase, and bedtimes will be earlier.  I am going to try and hold on to summer as long as I can.  After all, they are only kids once!!  Good luck to all of you and your kids!  xoxo denise

Road tripping this weekend?  Me too!  Comfort is key, but you need to look presentable once you arrive at your destination.  Easy, cozy pieces [like yogo studio pants and a tissue tee] are essential for comfort.  Throw on a few accessories and a jean jacket and you are good to go!  Classic Chuck Taylors are casual cool and practical
Team Thomas is headed to the Canadian Gulf Islands.  I can’t wait!  [Look for out and about posts next week.]
Where are you headed for the long weekend?

seattle spring

seattle spring by juneheartsfashion

A Seattle spring day.  We can have rain, hail, gloom, and glorious sunbreaks all within the matter of a few hours.  Dressing for this unpredictable weather is a bear.  Layers remain the key, but the fleece and down give way to lighter pieces.
I am totally crushing on the idea of a bright [and not too expensive] raincoat.  The hood is key for school runs, errands and baseball games.  It is a total bummer to get caught in a downpour with no coverage.  Around here, I could wear this outfit everyday.

mom uniform:: camo fun by juneheartsfashion

Spring in Seattle is not warm.  However, it is time to ditch the puffy jacket and tall boots.   Why not have a little fun while you are at it?
I will admit.  This girl is a total sucker for camouflage.  Lately I have been wearing: skinny jeans, a feminine top, and a camo jacket, light colored booties, and a fun colorful clutch.
How would you fit camouflage into your spring wardrobe?

what to wear?

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Lucky Magazine has taken the pressure off of us.  That question that is always hanging over your head.  [No.  Not, “What’s for dinner?”  The other one.]  What should I wear today?

First, review these 19 afordable pieces to have in your wardrobe to mix and match.

Then, choose one of these 45 combinations and rock your new outfit!  Just a few of my favorites…

 Be brave and have fun!

mom uniform:: summer layers

summer layers
It hasn’t been that warm around the Pacific Northwest in recent weeks.   [That might be the understatement of the century, but I won’t get started.]  It is also still raining…a lot.   Now, while I would love to be wearing my cut-offs, breezy tops and summer sandals, it is simply not feasible when the high reaches 58 degrees.
So, enter my recent “cold summer day” uniform.  My Splendid maxi skirt keeps my legs warm, a favorite long and lean tank from Target [my affection has been documented], and a Gap jean jacket.  And how do I accessorize?  Chuck Taylors to keep my toes dry in the downpours, a scarf [with a pop of color] to keep me from shivering, and my Ray-Bay aviators.  I also roll up the sleeves on the jacket and layer bracelets.  I am certainly not happy about this weather and I am desperately trying to mix in a few summer pieces.
Bring on summer.  Please
