BEAUTY FINDS

beauty finds

When I find a new beauty product that works, I feel that it is my duty to share the info.  In recent months I have come across three such products.  Here is the 411:

1.  Biore Self Heating One Minute Mask

I may have a slight addiction.  The packaging states to use this one to two times per week.  I wish it could be every day!  This totally affordable mask treatment warms as you apply it to your face and leaves your skin clear, soft and dewy.  I do not exaggerate, I am addicted.

2.  Pix! Shea Butter Lip Balm

Love!  This is the creamiest lip balm ever!  The best part?  The tint!  I use Coral Crush.  It gives my lips just a touch of natural looking color.  Perfect for summer when you don’t wear a lot of makeup.  These would also be great for tweens who are ready to wear a bit of make up.  {They are exclusive to Birchbox}

3.  Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

I wish I could accurately describe the feel of this primer.  The best I can do is liquid powder.  It is so light, you can’t tell it is on.  However, any creams or foundations you put on after applying the primer become flawless!  I have tried many primers and they are either heavy or don’t really work.  This one is win-win!  Magic really.

CHEEK POP

cheek pop

Just a quick beauty tip today!  A few weeks ago I was wandering through Nordstrom and stopped by the Clinique counter for CC Cream.  I must have been looking a bit drab, because the makeup artist asked if she could put a little blush on my cheeks.  {No offense taken!}  She used Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Berry Pop and it was perfect right away.  I would have bought it just for the gorgeous molded flower design and clear case.  I have worn it everyday since and love, love it.  And then just last week I spotted it in the May issues of O Magazine and W Magazine.  It is great to be ahead of the times!

Happy Monday!  xo

A NEUTRAL EYE

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

a neautral eye

Almost every day I use basic, neutral makeup on my eyes.  I don’t have the time {or interest} in doing more than just the basics:  shadow, liner, mascara.  Today I am sharing the products I have used for years and one new addition!

Step 1:  Brows

Don’t underestimate giving your brows attention!  I love {LOVE} the Anastasia Brow Kit.  This handy kit comes with stencils, tweezers, brow powder, a brush, and brow gel.  It sounds a bit high maintenance- but I got the hang of using the tools and now it takes less than 30 seconds.  Really.   I use Brunette/Dark Brown Brow Powder Duo.

Step 2: Shadow

My lids are very dark, so I use MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque  to even out the color.  Some days that is all I wear.  Other days, I either use Stila eye shadow in Kitten{a shimmery nude pink} or shadow from my Too Faced Natural Eye Neutral Eye Shadow Collection.  I adore this little palette. It comes with 9 shadows and three instruction cards with step-by-step application instructions.  I call that “Eye Shadow for Dummies” and it is awesome.

Step 3: Liner

For years I have used shadow as my liner.  Using an angled brush, it is easy to get a thin or thick line-whatever your mood.  Most days I use the shadow Sexpresso in my Too Faced palette.  For Christmas, Santa brought me Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black.  I really like how easy it is to apply and it doesn’t smudge at all.  Super excited about this addition to my basics.

Step 4: Mascara

A quick curl of the lashes and a swipe of mascara and I am done.  My favorite is they’re real! mascara by Benefit.  It is truly amazing what it does for your lashes!  The dark, dark black color really makes your eyes pop.  Be warned: you will need makeup remover to get it off at night.

All told, it takes about 2 minutes to do my eye makeup.  Quick, easy, and somewhat presentable.

Rank and Style roundup

You know that moment when your girlfriend walks into the party and she is wearing the most stunning earrings?  What is the first thing you ask her?  Where did you get those?  You know what they say- knowledge is power!  The hard part is we don’t all have time {or the energy} to be in the know.  Fret no more!  Rank & Style has you covered.  Seriously, it is kind of brilliant.

Rank & Style creates Top Ten lists using an algorithm {yes, I needed help spelling that} that researches and aggregates data from the department stores, boutiques, fashion blogs and style magazines you trust.  There is a new list each day and you can search all the past lists on their site.  They rank items in clothing, beauty, shoes, and accessories.  Looking for calf hair pumps?  They have a top ten list.  Need the best hair dryer?  There is a top ten list for that.  Awesome, right?

I really do love this site!  It is new {still in beta}, so check it out.  I really think they are on to something.

MATTE GRAY NAILS

matte gray nails

Weeks ago I pinned an image of matte gray nails.  The gray was classic, but the matte finish was unconventional.  I was totally into it!  A short time later I came across Essie ‘Matte About You Finisher’.  It instantly transforms nail color {any shade} from high-gloss to matte in seconds.  Done!  Those nails were mine.  I already had Essie ‘Chincilly’, the perfect shade of gray.   I simply painted my nails with one base coat and two coats of gray.  Then painted one thin layer of the matte finisher and it magically erased the shine from the nail polish and I was left with matte gray nails.  Too fun.

SUMMER LIP THERAPY

c700x700

It seems my lips have been needing a little extra TLC this summer.  I thought I would share the three products I have been using each day.   I am not one for lengthy beauty regimens, so these products pack a lot of punch with little to no effort.

1//  Sara Happ Lip Scrub –  I use the Peppermint scrub, but the Lemonade scrub sounds perfect for summer.  The tub is small but it lasts forever. I use just a little before I jump in the shower.  It helps exfoliate any dry skin and keeps my lips smooth.

2//  Laura Mercier HydraTint SPF 15–  I use the Crimson Tint, which is an orangey-red, throughout the day.  There are 6 tint colors to choose from.  It is a lip balm with sun protection, tint, and moisture all in one!  Throw it in your purse or beach bag and you are set.  Seriously love, LOVE this stuff!!

3// Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1– A classic.  I lather this on at night.  It helps moisturize after a long day in the sun!  [We use this year round in my house.  Great for super chapped lips in the winter, too.]

beauty basics: prep

beauty basics: prep by juneheartsfashion

As I creep up on forty, my skin needs a little more assistance to look its best.  I have never been one to buy into a system of facial products and actually stick to it.  My interest wanes and then I have a ton of products [sometimes expensive] under the sink that never see the light of day.   Has this ever happened to you?
In my quest to keep it simple, but also have great looking skin, I have found four products that I use every day that actually work for me.
This is by prescription only from a dermatologist.  I battle adult acne [Nothing better than wrinkles and zits, right?].  This antibiotic gel, in combination with oral antibiotics,  has it under control.  It is light, weightless and non-drying.
I have found my skin much oilier in the past few years.  Without this lotion, my face would be a shiny mess! I use it on my forehead, nose, and chin.  It helps keep shine at bay and helps my make up last into the afternoon.
This is a new addition, but an absolute keeper!  With just a small amount of this cream, my skin tone is even and dewy.  Who doesn’t love that?
This is my most favorite prep item!  Thanks to my Italian heritage, the circles under my eyes are dramatic!  This silky cream goes on easy.  Two quick swipes under each eye and I begin to look like a live human again.
With these four products, and a quick eyelash curl, and I can go about my day and not be startled when I look into the mirror.
What are your go-to beauty prep products?

nailed it: nude + gold

nailed it: nude + gold by juneheartsfashion

I splurged for a manicure yesterday.  A picture from Pinterest was my inspirationHowever my nail beds proved to be very short[That is a really nice way of saying I have stubby fingers. The ombre glitter look just wasn’t working.  So, through collaboration with the manicurist we decided upon a nude color (OPI/Bubble Bath) and gold sparkle tips.  The Art Club nail brush was extremely fine. It seemed easy enough to paint a very thin line just on the tipsI am loving my spring inspired nude + gold manicure.  Hoping it lasts for more than a day.

PS.  It is near impossible to take a decent photo of your own nails.
