FAVORITE THING: REVLON MATTE BALM

matte-balm | Where is June?

Girlfriends share!  They share everything from parenting advice to wine.  Or maybe the name of their favorite deodorant.  More times than not, my favorite things are discovered because a girlfriend gave me the inside track.  I thought it would be fun to share in the same way here on the blog.  A quick, not fancy post, about one of my favorite things.

First up, Revlon Matte Balm.  This drug store beauty purchase is my absolute favorite lip color.  I love the matte finish and the color is rich {and it lasts}.  I’m super picky when it comes to lip color.  I don’t like shiny or sticky gloss.  I also hate when a lipstick is overly drying and wears off unevenly.  This balm goes on just like your run-of-the- mill lip balm {AKA: ChapStick}.  It is moisturizing and leaves your lips super smooth.  I have Enchanting {a nude} and Striking {a coral-red}.  With 10 colors, everyone can find one they love!

I also love Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick and Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint.

in-the-details-no-25 | WHERE IS JUNE?

This week was an absolute blur. I worked Monday – Thursday {more on that in an upcoming post} and suddenly it’s Friday.  The forecast shows rain all weekend, so it seems we are entering our hibernation mode.  {At least I will be.}  Time to break out that happy light!  Are you going hunting for the great pumpkin this weekend?  It is that time of year!

Here are a few things that inspire or interest me this week:

1. Central Park.  Fall.  I mean.

2. I read this book in two days.  I couldn’t put it down.  I HIGHLY recommend Relativity by Antonia Hayes.

3.  My bedroom is desperately calling for a little TLC.  The simplicity of this room is striking.

4.  Just added this new rug to our family room.  We love it.  And now Target is having a sale on rugs….get one!

5.  These awesome lights would look great in a kids room or in an office.

6.  Popsicle stained lips.  Right on. Ordering this lipstick today in Jam.

7.  Pajamas for a night out?  Why not!  A few accessories and velvet shoes and you are good to go.

in-the-details no. 24 | Where is June?

It’s a Friday Night Lights kind of night.  We are headed to the UW v. Stanford football game this evening.  Well, actually the fun starts this afternoon.  Looking forward to catching up with college friends and being back on campus.  What are you up to this weekend?  Fall is here!  Have a good one. xo

Here are few things that inspire and interest me this week:

1. A misty view at Machu Picchu.  Seriously on the bucket list.

2.  Have you ever heard of magic cakes? Looks delicious, right?

3.  Calm living at its finest.  This takes “dwell well” to a whole new level.

4.  See the good.  Simply put.

5.  The sweetest little side lamp.  #targetdoesitagain

6.  My obsession for velvet booties grows.  {Here is a great selection.  Which is your favorite?}

7.  A fall cheese platter.  Yes. Please.

WORTH A LISTEN: THE RUN-UP PODCAST

the-run-up | Where is June?

Tonight is the first presidential debate leading up to the election.  Recently I started listening to The Run-Up podcast, produced by the New York Times.  It is an extremely informative podcast airing twice a week focused on all things Clinton and Trump.  The New York Times did just endorse Hilary Clinton, but I find the podcast to be fairly well-balanced in the way they approach each topic.  Many contributors and authors are interviewed with differing points of view.  No matter your politics, I 100% believe it is worth a listen.  The episode airing tomorrow will be breaking down the debate.  I can’t wait!

Check it out and let me know what you think.

in-the-details-no-23 | Where is June?

Giddy up- it’s Friday!  I’m looking forward to this first fall weekend.  Little Man is playing in his first flag football game of the season on Saturday.  We are hoping he will pull a flag this year.  Man, I love that kid!  Hope you have great things planned for yourself and your family.

Here a few things that inspired and interested me this week:

1. Oh, these black houses in Iceland have me Googling “Best Exterior Black Paint Colors”.

2.  An ingenious way to store/display heels.

3.  Call me old fashioned, but I like my earphones.  Obviously I didn’t just by the iPhone 7.  Instead, picked up these gold ear buds and they are AMAZING!

4.  Clogs with socks?  Totally PNW right there, but I kind of love it.  Totally out side my comfort zone-so I think I’m going to try it.

5.  This side shelf lamp would be perfect in a guest room.  Wish we had one in our house.

6.  Bomber jackets of my dreams.  Seriously.

7.  The 70’s called and word is that wall hangings are all the rage.  Like or dislike?

in-the-details-no-22 | Where is June?

I’m so happy it is Friday!  This week seemed exceptionally long, but I did accomplish quite a bit.  Finishing a few projects that have been lingering always feels good.  Fall officially starts next week, but I can already feel it in the air.  I swapped out my closet and I am ready for long sleeves and boots.  What are you up to this weekend?

A few things that inspire and interest me this week:

1.  The epitome of cool.  This snap shot of Lauren Hutton feels like it could have been taken on the streets of NY this week.

2. This salad sounds so delicious.  If peaches are out of season, I’m thinking you could swap pears in their place.

3.  Looking for something different to do in Seattle?  The Smith Tower has been re-imagined with a general store and a speak-easy bar.  Great views of the city in a historical building.

4.  These jeans.  Is 42 too old for rips and frays?  I say, no.

5.  Colder weather is on its way.  Time to cuddle up and read.  How perfect is this blanket?

6.  A positive message each and every morning.  Everyone could use a friendly bathmat.

8.  A modern farmhouse in Missouri.  This family knows how to dwell well.

Oh. my. goodness!  I had to share this hilarious podcast.  It is this week’s Modern Love podcast, “Revenge of the Friend”.   Kristen Chenoweth reads the essay and it is laugh out loud funny.  It is a story of revenge that a spin instructor seeks for her dear friend!  Spin bikes, a well crafted play list, an ex-husband, and the other woman.

Listen and tell me what you think!

WHEN THE WORDS DON’T COME

sunrise | Where is June

When you write, whether for a living or as a hobby, it is saddening when the words don’t come.  In the last few months I have started and not finished post after post.  During the day I would think to myself, “Oh, that would be a great idea for a post.”  Many days I didn’t have enough motivation to sit down and write.  Some days I would get started and not follow through.  The cycle was vicious.

I have written before about my self-diagnosed struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder {SAD}.   While I still haven’t seen a professional about it, I am 100% convinced that each winter I am faced with the crushing reality of being depressed.  It isn’t something that makes any sense.  My family is wonderful.  We are all healthy.  We have everything we need and then some.  From the outside it makes no sense to be sad.  However, it is impossible to talk yourself into shaking it off. {Believe me, I have tried.}  And while it is quite personal it is also quite real.  This year was exceptionally bad.  With a few extra concerns/battles piled onto my usual doldrums, this winter was unusually long and brutal.

The light is returning literally and metaphorically.  I am seriously hard wired to the sun.  I find joy in spending time with friends, loving on my boys, planning adventures, and laughing with my husband.  After too many months of being sedentary, I begin the slow road back to being fit.  I plan to write more consistently but in the spirit of being kind to myself, it won’t be everyday.   While there isn’t immediate recovery, new things like acupuncture, yoga, and mediation are helping me fight my way back to happy.

I hope you are well.  Thank you for reading and being supportive of my little corner.

street style my style | Where is June?

While killing time last week, I stumbled upon an image and the most amazing pair of shoes.  Now I’d love to say that I could justify a lace up pair of suede heels, but reality sets in and I realize I would probably get to wear them twice a year-at most.  They are to-die-for, but don’t fit into my very casual existence.  However, I couldn’t stop thinking about them and wanted to find something similar that I could wear on a regular basis.  Thankfully Steve Madden had me in mind and also designed a more casual sandal with the same amazing leather wrap lacing.  {He is the affordable shoe whisperer!}

So “my style” with the my new gorgeous sandals include, a simple black tank, denim shorts, a woven fedora and my very favorite glasses.  I can’t wait to throw all of these in my bag next month! We are heading to Hawaii for break and I am counting the days!

52 Lists Project | Where is June?

I am super excited about The 52 Lists Project. The buzz surrounding this book is BIG.  It has been featured on many websites and a several magazines.  Pretty sure once it was featured in O Magazine its best selling fate was sealed!  Written by Morrea Seal , it is a journal of lists to be completed throughout the year.  The photographs and illustrations are beautiful, plus lists are easy to write.  The list topics range from the wildest things you want to try to things that always cheer you up.  Fun, right? My perfect spot to write my lists would be a cozy cafe during a mid-week morning.  While that won’t always be possible, carving out time each week just for this purpose seems completely doable.

winter lists | Where is June?

During the holidays this book was literally impossible to get.  {Amazon was even on back order!}  My local book seller ordered me multiple copies but they didn’t arrive in time for gift giving.   SO, I have an extra copy and have decided to give it away to one of my readers!  If you are inspired to be part of The 52 Lists Project, please enter!  I would love to send you a copy.
